Its that time Y’all! Now personally, I believe that Christmas time deserves two whole months of celebration (yes, I am that girl who starts putting up Christmas decor in early November) but I guess we cant skip Thanksgiving right?
Whether you actually live in a farmhouse (which I am very jealous of you), an apartment, condo, townhome, whatever it may be…I’m going to run you through the perfect guide to decorating your farmhouse for Christmas this year, because what’s better than a southern style Christmas? And best of all, it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg! There are plenty of opportunities for DIY crafting and dollar general visits because let’s be real folks were all balling on a budget here. 😉
#1 Pops of Plaid
Red and green plaid table runners, pillow covers, throw blankets, bedding, or just about anything you can think of will add the perfect touch of southern Christmas spirit to your home. The best thing about plaid decor is that the styling is limitless! Whether it is buffalo checking, gingham striping, or vintage plaids it goes perfectly with the southern holiday look. Make sure to check out those local Flea Markets and thrift stores because you are bound to find some old decor or furniture that’ll match that perfect look for your winter farmhouse.
One of my favorite places to shop for the perfect plaid home decor items is Williams Sonoma. They have an entire line of plaid items to choose from to make sprucing up your farmhouse easy.
Don’t forget about the exterior of your home too! I bought this adorable garden flag for my yard. The checkered background and red truck go together adorably! If you haven’t seen my YouTube video yet, I talked about it some more here, Christmas Haul, make sure to check it out!
#2 Vintage Decor, Kitchen Ware, & Toys!
I DIE over pretty much anything vintage! ESPECIALLY if it is Christmas decor. Right now, call up your grandma, grandpa, your mom’s grandma, your great-grandma… call them all, because one little trip up to their attic and you might find you a treasure chest of Christmas gold. And if it doesn’t go with your farmhouse theme, sell it! You’d be super surprised as to how much vintage Christmas decor will sell for, crazy amounts yall!
I just went off on a little tangent there, but you get where I am going. Flea Markets and Thrift Stores, and garage sales will also be your best friends for this. I don’t know about yall but I find this super fun! Make a Saturday out of it with your girls and go get you some vintage Christmas decor, I promise once you find one thing you’ll become hooked!
You don’t have to go Flea Market hunting to find some vintage Christmas kitchenware, but if you plan to have a holiday party this season…these are a must! These will say I’m classy, have great taste, and they look super expensive! Check out TJ Maxx and Hobby Lobby for super cute and great deals on “vintage” kitchenware.
TOYS. Two words. Cracker Barrel. That is all. Go There. 😉
I found these absolutely adorable vintage styled canvases on Jane.com! I also talked about these on my Christmas Haul as well 🙂
#3 Burlap Stockings and Sacks
The great thing about stockings is they are so versatile. Meaning, you don’t necessarily have to stick with the classic red, you can choose stripes, burlap, green, etc, OR DIY your own! I am currently obsessing over the burlap stocking look. Burlap is not only such a southernly trend, but if you can somehow stick it into your holiday decor, why not right? And if you just can’t force yourself to stray away from the classic red stocking, try tieing a burlap bow around the stocking or stocking hook to spice the room up some, I promise it’ll grow on you.
Burlap Santa Sacks are also super cute to sit right next to your fireplace or Christmas tree.
#4 DIY Christmas Wreaths and Centerpieces
If you are a Hobby Lobby or Michael’s junky like me than crafty a wreath or centerpiece for your farmhouse this season should be on your to-do list! Hobby Lobby has white Styrofoam wreath forms that you can decorate however you want, paint them, decorate them with ribbon, tinsel, or pin ornaments on them! Stay tuned for a YouTube tutorial on how to make an ornament Christmas wreath on my channel 🙂
The same goes for centerpieces! Grab a rectangular wooden box from Michael’s or Hobby Lobby and paint it whatever color matches your kitchen, I’d go with white, brown, or grey and distress it. Then grab some cheap mason jars, place them in the box, and wrap some beautiful red, green, plaid, burlap, (whatever color you prefer) ribbon around the jars. Then you can fill the jars with whatever you like! Candy, pine leaves, cotton, flowers, acorns, you name it!
I hope these tips give you a few ideas to help give your home a little southern Christmas charm this season. Don’t forget to leave your email so you never miss a post, and like/share/and comment so you can spread the love ❤
